As a Senior Groundskeeper, lead and mentor the ground staff in the areas of maintenance of campus grounds, including but not limited to; outdoor litter/trash collection, grass mowing/trimming, snow/ice removal, weeding, pruning, edging, mulching, watering, planting, turf repair, leaf collection, raking, tilling, sweeping, and other duties as assigned. This role also acts as supervisor in the absence of service manager, and manages schedule changes, timecards, and shift coverages. |
| Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Meet regularly with the service manager to develop department goals and objectives. Assist in creating job schedules and timelines for meeting department objectives. Directly supervise 1st and 2nd shift groundskeepers and student workers with daily job duties and perform quality control of job completion under the leadership and goals set forth by the service manager. Participate in staffing related responsibilities such as hiring, evaluating, and providing feedback regarding employee performance, training employees, and participating in corrective actions as needed. Provide instruction and corrective feedback to groundskeepers and student workers during daily operations. Ensure safety guidelines and standard best practices are followed. Relay job report to service manager at completion of day. 2. Facilitate training activities for staff. Conduct and lead annual skills testing along with training new staff on policies and procedures. Ensure equipment policies and procedures are adhered to and report any infractions or corrective action needed to the service manager. Conduct repeat training sessions to correct misuse or to test understanding of department procedures. 3. Oversee irrigation startups, repairs, system maintenance and coordination between grounds staff and irrigation contractors. 4. Evaluate, organize and track inventory of heavy machinery, tools, equipment and supplies. Make recommendations to service manager for product replenishment. Operate all vehicles and equipment safely and effectively. Identify problem areas on campus, report to service manager and work to identify solutions. Assist in planning capital improvements, projections for labor, materials and equipment and lead installation of light landscape construction projects. 5. Assist with contractor consultations and inspect work performed by outside contractors. Solve issues and report only significant deviations to service manager. |
