The scope of the Assistant Director, Financial Planning and Analytics includes establishing and growing the information technology reporting component of financial planning and analytics within the Office of Finance and University, providing historical, current and long-term financial modeling and reporting for all areas of student pricing. This includes building key analysis and insights to support strategic decisions, driving financial planning cycles, and partnering with leadership to ensure financial health and goal achievement. It involves interpreting complex data, developing models, contributing to existing data architecture/pipelines, creating & maintaining business intelligence reports, and analyzing variances to guide business strategy and resource allocation, acting as a bridge between finance and academic operations. | Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Financial Reporting: a. Create and automate related data collection and data storage procedures. b. Integrate new data sources and add data pipelines as necessary for Financial Planning and Analytics into a SQL Server data warehouse environment. c. Add fact and dimension tables as required to data warehouse architecture and develop SQL stored procedures to populate tables. d. Develop Microsoft Power BI reports and publish to DataMarq as requested by University Leadership, Budget Office, Finance Leadership, and Planning and Analytics. e. Investigate machine learning tools and explore, develop, and implement machine learning models on existing historical data for predictive analytics on college financials and long-term forecasts related to net tuition pricing and housing. 2. Improve forecast accuracy and financial statement analysis through the review of current state forecasting process and identify bottlenecks, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. This includes applying econometric modeling to historic student and financial data. Specifically, responsible for the monitoring and forecast of over $600 million of operating budget as is relates to gross tuition, discount and room and board across all student categories. 3. Financial Planning and Analysis: a. Maintain benchmarking data files. b. Compile and organize financial data for various university units including financial trends at the university, department, and program levels. c. Generate and organize College and Department Financial files and presentations. 4. Undergraduate & Graduate Level Programs Pricing: a. Assist in data collection, research, and report preparation; assist the review, analysis and preparation of all revenue drivers and related discount within university budget. b. Understand and communicate the economic variables related to the industry of higher education. c. Research and analyze competitor pricing in the evaluation of the university’s market position. d. Perform economic forecasts and provide solutions to financial weaknesses and potential. 5. Identify the various target clients within the university business model and link the financial constraints of the customer to the financial expectations of the university in its forecast, operating budget and long-term outlook. 6. Contribute to the assessment of tuition rates and discount of undergraduate, graduate and professional level programs through the application of current actuals, economic knowledge, analysis of competing/benchmark institutions, and understanding of the university’s target clients. Use data visualization skills to create reports for board meetings to help leadership determine appropriate tuition and fees along with room and board increases. 7. Provide leadership and mentorship to junior analysts within the Office of Finance through training of analytical modeling, familiarization of financial processes of the University, and support the introduction to business leaders, including College Deans, Department VPs, and faculty. Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc. 8. Recommend appropriate budgets for existing, new, and Incubator programs by gathering institutional knowledge, analyzing current market conditions, and actively meeting with university faculty and staff. a. Maintain and track budgets of existing, new and Incubator programs; Meet quarterly with corresponding faculty to update actual student enrollment and forecasted expenses; Perform budget versus actual analysis yearly. b. Work with restricted data such as salary and budgets as part of new program development, review and financial reporting. 9. Administer Board of Trustees materials related to the following tasks. Create Board books on BoardEffect; Organize and gather board materials from stakeholders; administer “Minutes”, “Agenda”, & “Four Square” reports for quarterly meetings. 10. Provide support in tracking financial priorities by applying a predictive analysis and documented recommendations to support enrollment strategy. Collaborate and partner with campus units to drive department and college financial sustainability. This support includes: a. Robust modeling to operationalize future planning. b.. Active involvement in university initiatives and capital projects. c.. Improve financial statement literacy on campus (evolution of college and department financials, road shows, etc.). |
| Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | - Minimum of 5 years experience with using complex mathematical modeling, forecasting, and advanced statistical techniques - Proficiency in SQL, Microsoft tools (Sql Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio), experience working in Python - Data warehouse architecture development - Experience working with data pipelines, integrating various data sources (Flat files, APIs, external database tables, etc) - DevOps framework - Data visualization tools (Microsoft Power BI, Tableau) - Experience with other statistical/coding software such as Tableau, SPSS, R, Stata, Java, SQL, SAS, etc. |
