The day-to-day work of the Disability Services Coordinator involves the review and approval (or denial) of appropriate disability documentation as well as approval/denial of requested accommodations within the interactive process of disability law compliance. This role coordinates accommodation provisions for students who need texts in alternative formats, real-time audio transcription, sign-language interpreting, and lecture capture support. This position also is responsible for hiring contractors/student workers when appropriate, organizing contracts, and procuring materials in a cost-effective and time-sensitive manner. Responsible for identifying efficiency improvements throughout all of these processes. Supports test proctoring operations at the direction of the ODS Testing Coordinator. Responsible for hiring, training and management of the ODS student office assistants who manage office reception and other clerical duties
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Review incoming disability documentation, ensuring that it appropriately describes a student’s medical/mental health need to engage in the accommodations process. Determine reasonable accommodations that provide equitable access for the student based on relevant disability law.

2. Meet with students to arrange accommodations and appropriately address follow-up needs and concerns from students, faculty, staff, and parents.

3. Support test proctoring operations at the direction of the Test Proctoring Coordinator

4. Responsible for administrative support which includes, but is not limited to, providing organization of the front office, stock supplies, and is a first-line backup for phone calls and visitor greeting.

5. Hire, train, supervise, and support 4-6 undergraduate student office assistants.

6. Assist with procurement of materials in accessible formats/manually convert materials to accessible formats when needed.

7. Work with internal/external providers to schedule and coordinate contracted services (Real-time captioning, Sign Language Interpreting, Notetaking, etc.)

8. Act as liaison for identified campus partners to assist in appropriate cross-campus collaboration efforts
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of two years’ experience.
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • The ability to manage time and multiple, disparate responsibilities simultaneously is essential to success in this position.
  • Ability to develop solutions to problems that have not previously been solved and will be expected to critically evaluate information from multiple sources to come to an appropriate decision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and approach duties in a flexible manner
  • Ability to relate diplomatically with students, parents, faculty and staff.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with disability law.
  • Familiarity working with emerging adults in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabling conditions.
  • Customer service experience.
