Position Overview:

The Public Works Crewman position is responsible for collecting, transporting, and disposing garbage, trash, and recyclable materials. The position is also responsible for a variety of roadway maintenance and public works construction tasks. The Public Works Crewperson will be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, or the Fleet Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates automated collection trucks for refuse and recycling.
  • Performs manual collection of household and yard waste.
  • Operates vehicles, heavy machinery, and equipment for street-related tasks.
  • Hauls various materials, including garbage, recyclables, gravel, and snow.
  • Operates snow and ice removal equipment; applies salt and de-icers.
  • Maintains streets, sidewalks, sewers, gutters, and lift stations.
  • Cleans and maintains detention pond fountains and aerators.
  • Performs forestry tasks, including pruning, removal, and planting.
  • Repairs streets through patching, crack filling, and sealcoating.
  • Maintains landscaping, including mowing and weed control.
  • Pours and finishes concrete for pavement, curbs, and sidewalks.
  • Assists other departments as needed.
  • Installs decorative banners and flags.
  • Performs routine maintenance on City vehicles and facilities.
  • Communicates with supervisors, co-workers, citizens, and vendors.
  • Maintains punctual, predictable attendance and works overtime as needed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Requires a high school diploma
  • Experience: One or more years heavy manual work experience
  • Other: A good driving record. Requires a valid State of Wisconsin CDL with B, C, D and Class N (tanker) endorsement or the ability to earn one within 6 months of hire.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting Pay: $21.60 depending on experience.
