I'm partnered with a privately held industrial metals company supporting large-scale commercial construction and infrastructure projects across the U.S. As the company continues to grow, they have added a newly created Senior Accountant position to join the team near their office near Waukegan, IL.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will support the accounting and finance functions within the organization. This individual will support the financial accounting and reporting functions for a privately held industrial organization. Responsibilities include overseeing billing activities and processing project-related change orders, assisting with financial forecasting and projections, maintaining and updating general ledger activity across multiple accounts, and supporting the month-end close process along with the overall financial reporting cycle.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities:
- Support period-end close activities, including journal entries, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages, including consolidated statements and supporting schedules
- Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, research variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Prepare bank and intercompany reconciliations across multiple entities
- Support project accounting activities, including work-in-process analysis and revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion methodology to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Assist with inventory accounting processes, including reconciliations and support for physical inventory counts when applicable
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities, including monthly projections, quarterly forecasts, and annual operating plans
- Support reporting requirements for a corporate parent organization and assist with related deliverables as needed
- Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on strengthening controls, improving efficiency, and enhancing reporting accuracy
- Provide support to accounts receivable and accounts payable functions as needed

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; an accounting focus is preferred but not required.
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including involvement in month-end close.
- Experience within either a manufacturing or construction environment is required, with a background in corporate accounting or project accounting.
- Experience working with an ERP system is required.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
